In which case, its likely that id have seen no action at all when i tested
the device briefly with the 9v DC supply, right?

Anyway, the only regulator i could spot was an L7805CV, for which i looked
up, and it appears to be +ve only, so, i believe im clear on that point.

Im pretty novice, and this i understand less of.  As far as i can spot,
there is only one single diode anywhere near that area of the pcb.  There
are a couple of resonably sized capacitors (470uf, 35v), i presume for
smoothing, and an 275 VAC, 0.22uf.

Would i be wrong to assume that the middle leg of the regulator would be an
ok place to test for the 0.6v?  If so this, and indeed all other points that
i guessed should be 0v were.

Does this meen im home and dry on this one?
