Well, in my 3D animation software I can set up a light with a negative
value. This means that it actually subtracts light (useful for reducing
hotspots and things like that). I'm thinking that "Black LEDs" would have to
be little tiny black holes that would subtract light. Just don't get your
hand too close to that panel!!

BTW - a light with a negative value casts a bright 'shadow' (the shadowed
area gets lighter instead of darker, as with a normal shadow), at least in
my software. Probably would be incredibly confusing to see something like
that in real life!
