My commercial "Frostwave" fx boxes are made by
DIP for some designs and SMT for others.
I went SMT because some crucial components are ONLY insmt now.
But, for me, the smt is more reliable, because you can't
get the wrong resistor put in place.
And if the design is right, it isn't going to want fixing ;D
(having said that, i have some boards here wanting a voltage
doubler chip replaced because I didn't provide protection
against 20v C being run into the 9v DC power input).
But that is my shameful fault, not SMT vs DIP.
Actually ther is a certain amount of DIP as well on the smt
boards, i put them on the other side.
