The handy thing about digital noise sources (LFSR) is that parts don't have
to be hand selected; that's one reason why manufacturers would prefer them.
Even as a mere DIYer, I would just as soon avoid the selection process. :-)
On the other hand, Tim Daugard wrote, "I have been using 6.3 V zeners as my
noise source. They are inexpensive and every one has put out a good level of
noise." That's good to know! Maybe the need for selection is overstated.
(Peter G just added a similar comment about noise diodes.)
Peter would agree with me that low-bitcount LFSR noise (MM5837 with 17 bits,
for example) into a Sample and Hold is a good CV source at times *because*
of its repetitive nature.
