Hello all

I've made a couple of posts to this list, but figure a more detailed intro
would be nice. My name's Mike Both, and I live 'down under' - Adelaide,
South Australia, to be exact. I'm a software guy by trade, but have done biz
on and off through a small custom FX/electronic company to make ends meet
for a while - and currently are finding those ends further apart ;), so am
working on this full time! Musically, I studied classical piano for a number
of years, then gave it up for French Horn (and you thought modular synths
were expensive) then bass, which is now my main instrument. Synth-wise I've
never had any thing modular (only progressed through a CZ1000, DX21, CZ1, M1
then midi controller + modules as well as Hammond + Leslie) and played in
blues, jazz and funk bands. Electronic-wise I bailed out of a EE degree
after first year (wasn't so keen on the electron-level behaviour of parts,
to be honest), did a software degree instead, and first got the real music
electronics bug trying to keep myself from going nuts during a difficult
divorce - and I almost succeeded! ;) Nowadays I'm looking at doing more
custom guitar fx / electronic music devices, as well as soon(ish) starting
work on my own modular - the ASM1/2 board from the chap here in Australia
looks to be a good bet.

I've actually read synth-diy on and off over the years, so recognise a lot
of the 'faces' - and very much appreciate the information being exchanged,
as well as the air of relaxed obsession with the subject at hand. Although I
might never be able to contribute ideas at the same technical level as some
of the members here, I'm going to be updating my site with DIY PCB layouts
and the like (using Protel I can generally cobble together reasonable
layouts for things - and it's fun too! :D ), and hope to be able to make at
least a small contribution towards this community.

Ok, enough for now. Nice to meet you all!

Mike
