otoh you asked about Hex Fuzz... I have built such a system as well.  It is
WELL worth the time and effort.  I used 12dB State Variable Lowpass Filters,
VCAs (per string) for noise gating, Envelope Followers with Lag and Attack
Delay.    There are some photos over at Larry Hendry's site in the AHMW
folders...
