'fatness' in an analog synth is multiple oscillators at or near the
same frequency, like you say. the fatness comes from the fact that the
amplitude of a given frequency is greater (the two signals are mixed
slightly and build on each other). this is why the minimoog sounds so
fat: three oscillators.
