this is the toy that my email name references. denshi
blocks (literally electronic blocks).  gakken recently
released an aniversary edition of this toy, but in the
1980s there was a set that included a "music
synthesizer" block.  i have yet to find one, but im
keeping my peepers peeled.

in general they are a lot of fun, though perhaps not
as flexible as the spring wire science fair sets from
radio shack.  worth picking up if you ever see one (i
found my first set at a thrift store in rural iowa).
