> Congratulations Ryan; not married yet, but you have already been
introduced to the concept of 'wife gating'. This is a term Larry Hendry and
I coined a while back through an email exchange. To be fair, the term
should be changed to spouse gating, to cover that .01% of husbands who have
wives that are into Synth DIY. <
In all fairness, while we both practice spouse gating, certainly Scott is
responsible for recognizing and placing the appropriate name on the
phenononem. However, Harry has perfected the process by bringing his wife
far enough into the synth world to be able to gate his wife with normally
wife inverting signals. He gets to gate his wife with synth gear. Damn !!
He is the master, and I am not worthy (say hi to Dana for me Harry).
> A real-life example of spouse gating: My wife has been on an extended
return home to VN. She took X amount of dollars with her. Vietnam is still
a fairly inexpensive place to be (it's getting more expensive) but she took
plenty of dough. I get a call the other day..."Honey, I'm out of money can
you send me some?". That's the trigger. I could have easily inverted the
envelope by exclaiming "What??!!!" (that's all it takes, you know), but
sweetly it was "How much and when, honey?". This will allow the
ex-post-facto purchases I've made in her absence pass through, though maybe
still with a bit of high end clipping. <
Certainly a prime example of synth self-interest cleverly disguised. Scott,
you are on it man. And, I enter my own:
Wife's sister and hubby come to visit from Calgary for their first Indy 500.
They stay 12 days. Before they come, Larry comes through with remodeled
bedroom, all new bedroom furniture, starting line penthouse tickets to the
500, chairside parade tickets, exclusuve fashion show tickets (driver and
wives model clothes), a rental Harley for 2 days so we can ride together
while they are here, and 12 days of wine and dine.
My synth budget is now officially wide open. Anyone have an obscenely
expensive vintage Synth for sale?
Larry
