Actually, there are people in the small villages around here who do still 
make their own shoes!  I found this out from a tech who used to work with 
me, who described (embarrassedly) how his Dad does it.  I'm sure Ryan could 
learn how, but I believe one needs to be able to make approximately four 
pairs a month --  remember, a room full -- which wouldn't leave much time 
for the VCOs.
