Have you tried modulating the sample rate? I don't mean to resample a
waveform in software, only to spit it out through your computer sound card,
at a fixed sample rate. I mean to vary the actual hardware sample rate of
your DAC. I believe some sound cards can lock onto an external clock
signal. If so, feed it a modulated clock signal of your own design. Would
that work? It would be a more hardware-oriented approach, and depending on
your clock design, it could still be under software control.
