Y-ellow Mutants.
You'll note that my email address has changed slightly once again.
Some orifice harvested the addressed off the whois database this time. So
the old "Batzmanx" address will no longer exist by the time you read this.
There's a whole pile of new quasi-projects and other stuff on the web site
if you wish to take a look. Well 2 new projects and some other new strangeness.
I've been getting into, -'shock horror'- switching mode technology of late.
Power-electronics, as it's often referred, is largely a mystery to most
people. Everyone knows what and why but the devil's in the details. As I've
often stated here in the past, I've always avoided coils and magnetics in
general where possible. However now I'm finding it fascinating. Even though
I'd still consider myself a complete novice in this field. The things these
power-electronics persons do with a bit of copper wire and a core is truly
remarkable.
Too keep it brief, you can read more on the quasi-blog on the site if
you're interested. However I'd just like to mention that everything starts
with the power supply. And whilst that may not seem the sexy end of the
biznuss, paying it some attention can yield all kinds of fascinating
benefits. At least that is to say, this is the line taken by the
Power-Electronics gurus. But then again these guys have a twisted outlook.
While espousing the virtues of transformer design, they sling off at anyone
designing and using an ordinary mains frequency power transformer and
linear supply. Their kettles appear to be some what blackened round the
edges. It's funny to read this transformer bigotry though. It reminds me of
the good ol' days when the digital synth heads could sling-off at the old
analog has-beens. I wonder what happened to all those ol' guys and all that
"yesterday's technology?" :)
There's also an audio test-set project in a PDF. Tip o' the hat to Terry
for the PDF. Plus a new Isoworld character to drool at. (She's pretty cute
actually.) And a general request for the donation of old electronic gear
rather than it wind up in land fill.
Finally, if you still can't contact me or any of the other AEK people, try
using the contacts page on the web site for the current addresses. It would
seem that putting contact details on a separate web page linked through a
frame tricks most spam harvesters.
While I'm here, I'd like to publicly thank Eric Barbour (Metasonix) for
facilitating the arrival of my new Tek Scope. Well old new tech scope. It's
absolutely wonderful to be able to see inside things again. I could not
have acquired this without his help and advice. And also to thank Paul
Perry (Frostwave) for the bits, without which the projects on the site
would never have come about.
Finally, just to annoy Harry, I bought a new plug-in bread board about a
week ago. Gotta have something to plug all those BBDs into. :)
Be Absolutely Icebox.
