[sdiy] power supply

I use a solderless breadboard for trial circuits. I screwed the
breadboard blocks to a metal chassis and built 3 power supplies
into it with binding posts for ground, +5, +15 and -15. Each
supply uses a 3 terminal 1 ampere regulator IC. I also have an
adapter board with regulators that I can attach to the +/-15V
regulators that gives me +8/-12 for emulating a FatMan supply.
IMHO, 1 ampere is quite sufficient for the stuff I do, which
is usually 6 or less IC packages. I've also used more, with
no problems.

I have tried the idea of bring out the supply from a synth and
I did have a catastrophe once. I blew up my first FatMan, it
took 3 days to fix it. I would NEVER do this again.

Your milage may vary, but mine smoked...
