also varies within manufacturer. the schematic appears to be based on
LM317, with adjust - out - in.
data sheet application notes often contain useful circuits. the LM117/317
data sheet shows schematics for many power supply possibilities.
incidentally, you can use e.g. 78xx regulators as variable regulators, in
the same way you would use LM317. the math for resistor values is a little
different due to the 'fixed' voltage default.
and, of course, the pinout is different...
