for what its worth, there are several chinese factories selling all manner
of LED's direct, at a completely different price scale.

here is a typical example, 100 pieces bright blue 3mm 3-4mcd for $16.5:

their ebeigh store has a wide range of price tiers according to volume.

i have bought a couple rounds from these dudes. it is nice to have more
super-bright LED's than you know what to do with...
