just a quick follow up on this--i tried it, i liked it!  very low level,
took quite a boost to get it even up to line level... which compounded the
biggest issue of hum pickup.  some selective filtering helped a lot.

i tried to boost the level by adding surface area: used an aluminum plate
and scrap of copperclad board, with a puddle of saltwater held in place by
surface tension.  no noticable difference.

anyway, i got some very pleasant pinkish noise punctuated w/ little
"zips"... will certainly show up in a recording sometime soon.  recommended
for a quick diversion.
