Or rather, "how to measure the jitter so that we can separate it from
noise and waveform nonidealities without extensive computation".
In theory you can measure anything you can hear from 44khz 16 bit wav. The
trick is actually doing it in practise.
As I mentioned before, I have a program that can measure very precisely
the frequency of a signal along time from 44khz recording (we're talking
about 0.001 - 0.01hz resolution). Downside is that the time resolution is
lowered to about 100 msec. Send me email if you want a copy.
