I have a USB midisport 4x4 and I find I have midi jitter problems. I
guess around +5mS mostly, but it will go up to around +40mS every so
often. You can get away with slow string sounds, but triggering anything
with rhythm is a problem. VSTi and all audio will run perfectly.
But I am running on an old VIA 133 chipset with USB1 and Win98SE.
According to some of the various forums out there, this is the problem.
I have tweaked this and that but nothing improves it. [BTW any advice on
this is welcome. Off list, of course]
Intel and newer VIA chipsets are supposed to be better in this respect.
I would guess that PCI or even ISA cards will always beat USB though.
The little USB driven Midex-3 looks quite nice at 75UKP but you need to
be running Cubase to gain advantage of its impressive jitter free
playback. Any midi thru delays are always going to fall foul of the
whims of USB though.
