It has, in fact it is set to become an IEEE standard. You might want to
search the Gibson web site for MaGIC, this should find the press
releases and a few technical descriptions. I've set off a thread "ADDA
& MIDI over Ethernet/Firewire?" just over a year ago (I guess it should
be archived somewhere) on that topic. My personal conclusion was that
I'd just use the physical layer of Ethernet (mainly because the
interface is standardized and the necessary chips can be had quite
cheaply) and put an STM system on top of that. It needs to be
self-configuring (which instrument gets to use which time-slot) so that
you can change the setup live without worrying about configuration
parameters and it needs endpoints for converting to legacy interfaces.
