You have got it """a bit wrong"""!
Read its historical backgrounds!
Midi is not propietary, its one of the very few non propietary protocoll
that ever have ben released. It has it quirks as any protocoll has but
quite straigth forward if you dont mumbojumbo it up!!
However the hardware for MIdi 1.0 is not up to date.

Midi was inwented before the Atari, and yes its done in the past!

Read the historical backgrounds of midi please. At that time it was
a blessing, no thanks i dont what the crap that was before, all kind
of propietary 8bit interfaces and protocoll!! Ugh! Ugh again!

Note on note of is very simple!

Use MCS and data lengts can be 16 bits if you like!

Puke or use MCS!

Use MCS!

Use cheap bytheflight optics and POF!
I will go in the fore front of Midi 2.0 wich uses the same
protocoll but uses any hardware interface and uses dynamic
rate UART, wich will make it quite fast! Fiber optics anyone!
Anyone in favor of Midi 2.0 done by the unated diy in public domain?

Manage your self into orders!
(whooaaahaha, silly me, i have loads of old patch casettes wich i
dont have the slightes clue on what machine the belong to!!) :-)

Puke!

Puke, puke!

Hrmm!

Neat!

No, never, i refuse! (ok then, a tiny, puke)
