If you arranged for placing the OS and application software on a single,
bootable CD-R, and if that resulted in a supremely stable and useful
softsynth, sequencer, etc--well, why not? When you're done playing with
that application (or small suite of applications), just change the CD-R and
reboot into something else.

I'm sure there are many circumstances where we don't really need a fancy
GUI, and would glady trade the GUI for a much more stable, if
feature-limited working environment.
