My vote would be for any OTA, but the CA3280 in particular.  Controlled 
gain cells are pretty much used everywhere in synth circuits.  And it you 
really streatch things you can build just about any module using an OTA:

VCO's
VCF's
VCA's
ADSR's
SampleHolds
Glides
Multiplexors
etc...
