Quoting the LM3900 designer once more:
"Because application design approaches are very different
from those used with standard opamps, the LM3900 is usually
not called an opamp to avoid confusion with standard
opamps."

Indeed - it has only 3V/mV (70dB) of open loop gain.
IMO the only thing that makes this chip somewhat attractive
even today is the fact that it has the current mirrors that
complete a pnp pair to form a discrete OTA already built in,
four-fold, in addition to the quad amplifier function.
The classic ARP 4pole filter gets my vote for the all-time
best LM3900 application.
