Hi List,
You may or may not imagine how gut-wrenching it is to see a thread that trips
your trigger come through after an hour of re-configuring a modem to pulse
dialing, fighting a remote email server, then logging off and reading the thread
and not being able to link back in a reply.
Anyhow, anything I had to say has already been said - Ken Stone has the PT2395
evaluation board coming out (whoa! The RAM mirror imaged on the datasheet?
Thanks for that note Ken - I would have gone berserk!!), Scott Bernardi has the
cool PT2399 module, yep, the PT2399 won't go low enough for delay, a 1024 or 512
stage BBD probably would if it was overclocked (which is what a lot manufacturers
routinely did), the PT2395 might if you diddle with the address lines, and
Harry's right - be veeewwwyyyy caweful with BBD's. And BBD's are noisy, but God
I love'em (bless their little silicon substrates). Whew! There - I said it!
As it so happens, I resurrected my PT2399 proto-board after a rest of over a
year, and kludged a very simple mixer to play with it over the Christmas break.
I use either a FET or an expo current sink, directly lifted from Rene Schmitz, to
CV the delay time. The delay portion is directly from the datasheet's 'Surround
Sound' example with a mixer for regeneration.
I've got some samples on my 'Birth of a Synth' page where I (over)use it quite a
bit. Bear in mind it is the barest of circuits, but it gives you somewhat of an
idea of the nature of the beast. Scott Bernardi - have you posted any samples of
yours? Can't check right now - internet connection costs an arm and a leg out of
this hotel........
The samples are here:

They are under '18 January' and '30 December'
Cheers,
Scott
