Microsecond delays aren't very practical, but tapped delays at short X
ms intervals are indeed useful. They can simulate extremely short room
reflections. I experimented with tapped delays on tired old Kurzweil
pianos and liked the timbre change enough that it was like playing a new
piano. Tapped delays also work great at adding some soul to a dry synth
vibrato.

Check out the Korg SDD-2000, you can dial all the way down to 1ms with
100us resolution; above 10ms delay at 1ms resolution, then up to 4096ms
delay. Cheap and sounds great.
