Microsecond delays aren't very practical, but tapped delays at short X 
ms intervals are indeed useful.  They can simulate extremely short room 
reflections.  I experimented with tapped delays on tired old Kurzweil 
pianos and liked the timbre change enough that it was like playing a new 
piano.  Tapped delays also work great at adding some soul to a dry synth 
vibrato.

Check out the Korg SDD-2000, you can dial all the way down to 1ms with 
100us resolution; above 10ms delay at 1ms resolution, then up to 4096ms 
delay.  Cheap and sounds great.
