I've used Newark as well, though I live in Toronto so I have quite a few
good places to shop directly and don't order parts very often.

Another good spot to order from is electrosonic ( www.e-sonic.com ) who
are a Canadian based company.

I buy most of my parts from US suppliers, so I know what you are going 
through. Out here in the west there are very few choices locally.

One thing I have found is to NEVER use UPS to ship over the border, they
will 
charge you between $30 and $50 for brokerage fees. All my orders ship by
USPS 
and I will not buy from anyone who won't ship that way. When the package

crosses the border, Canada Post only charges a $5 processing fee + GST,
and on 
small packages they sometimes don't charge at all.

There are a number of good suppliers in Ontario/Quebec, but I am not
really 
familiar with them. Maybe Mike Irwin or someone from that area of Canada
can 
help. For US suppliers I like Newark electronics (www.newark.com), they
are 
fast and professional, and they ship from a Canadian depot, so there are
no 
customs problems.
