[sdiy] pcb layout??

Okay so I wanted to ask around to everyone;

I have made quite a few analog effects/instruments,
ect.  
I always pretty much stuck to the pcb artwork as it
is, only changing it slightly when needed, mostly by
hand drawing.  what I would like to know is if there
is any sort of software (for the Mac) that makes it
easyer to make a more densely populated pcb? it would
certainly help. (and it would give my sharpie marker a
break)
