I did this with a flute once.  Came apart real easy...putting it back
together...THAT was a big mistake.

But I agree with the guts being secondary to the results.  I've seen
quasi-judgemental comments about certain vintage modules being littered with
surplus military components and my feeling was it didn't really matter if it
was filled with Tijuana cat poop, the result at the business end of the
jacks was terrific - even 35 years later.
