Agreed! Look at the Monowave and the Evolver. Also, I still think putting a
micro-based expo converter on an analog VCO core would be a great solution
to the many and varied temp/drift related problems. You can still use the
micro-based portion to also drive a wavetable sort of thing, but you also
have the analog core where you can play with all sorts of fun, simple
waveshaper circuits.

Agreed/NOT! First off, most electronic music these days is 'boom, boom,
boom' (as you said) - and I like that for short periods - but I haven't
heard anything in a long time that I like as much as "Sequencer" or Tomita's
"Planets". We're just going off our likes and dislikes. Secondly, just
because the music we're recommending is old, that doesn't mean it's not good
or valid music. People are still inspired today by music written hundreds of
years ago and performed on strings, wood and skins! You say 'embrace the
future' and I agree, but don't be in such a rush to embrace the future that
you forget the wisdom and lessons of the past. Good music is good music.
That we still listen to things like "Ricochet" should be a testament to it's
strengths, rather than an indictment of our "lack of musical thinking."
Newer is not necessarily better, and older is not necessarily worse.
Finally, two more recommended listening suggestions:
1) Freight Elevator Quartet - "File Under Futurism"
A wonderful combination of samples, synths, cellos, spoken, etc. A bit
"dance/trance" but different enough to inspire.
2) Our own Peter Grenader - "Fluxus" and "Electrolux"
Another example of the great talent on this list. Fluxus is smooth and
haunting, Electrolux is jarring and slightly scary in spots (in a good way).
Great stuff

Okay, I'll shut up now. :-)
Tim (STILL listening to ELP's "Welcome Back My Friends") Servo
