Steve,

why MUST it be analogue?

not sure if you mean me or PaulS, but I've thought about a progammable
modular, and its doable, but people wouldn't be interested. for two reasons
;- the market is too small, it would mean using digital technology and it
would also cost a fair bit.

its only boring because no-ones tried anything new yet!
I have a soundart Chameleon, ok, people know I evanglise about it, but if
you wanna move with the times and use TODAYs technology (not 30 year old)
its a great way to get started..
The only reason modern VAs are boring is that they are pandering to a market
obsessed with 20+ year old synth sounds (like the tb303) and techno dance
babble.
> how can we apply whats new and hot to analog synths??
I'll ask again, Why LIMIT yourself to just analogue?
How old is your car? does it have fuel injection, engine management unit?
GPS sat nav? aircon?
Do you have a DVD player? PC? Mp3 Player?
My point is, why buy into the new stuff for one thing and not others?
Embrace technology, don't fear it, don't write it off without seeing whats
around.
Don't write off DSPs without trying some 'original' ideas.
I mean, you can't say you dont like crisps if you only ever tried 'maggot
flavour'
I used to loath DSP synths, for no really good reason, but Ive moved on, I
now see the power, the potential and (almost) endless capability of modern
stuff.
Take a read of the little (short) interview that soundart did with me about
my switch from analogue to DSP ;-

forget it, dont worry about catching up with the 70's, you live in the year
2004, Right here, right now!
> anyone care to comment?
Hows the above? :-)
> are us through-hole dinosaurs destined for extinction? Say it aint so!!!!
if people insist on living in the past, they might become extinct, but just
a 'dieing breed'
