I don't believe that would account for the noises that exist when no notes
are being played. It's primarily those background noises that I want to get
rid of. They certainly aren't severe, but they do annoy me somewhat. 

The original DX-7 had a lot of the artifacts that you describe, but the
TG77 is *much* cleaner in that regard. I'm sure its higher bit depth and
sample rate help a great deal in that regard, but other bits of the
technology were surely also improved since the manufacture of the original
DX-7.
