[sdiy] Neat sounds!!!

It's simple. I wired up the SpeakJet as follows:

*SpeakJet*
Pin 5 - GND
Pin 10 - Serial Rcx --> PSIM-1
Pin 13 - GND
Pin 14 - +5V
Pin 18 - Audio Out

The Serial port from the prototype PSIM SpeakJet synth module is a standard
1/8" jack. I run it into the AUX jack on the PSIM-1 module using a standard
1/8" patch cord.

The SpeakJet requires a microcontroller or computer to use this way. You
"could" do it via RS-232 from your PC (you have to add a MAX232!)... but
then you wouldn't have the analog capabilities that the PSIM-1 has. The
PSIM-1 has four analog inputs and four analog outputs. Plus... the added
benefit that it makes the perfect controller for the SpeakJet. I hate to
sound like I'm advertising the PSIM-1 on a DIY list... but think of it this
way. Even if you buy the module, it truly is a DIY project. You're just
building modules with code rather than solder. It's also the perfect CV
controller for all your other DIY modules. Anyway...

In that sample (which was actually two recordings - I did the drum track
earlier), the PSIM-1 is acting as a Sample and Hold (perfect by the way...
no droop), Quantizer, CV to MIDI converter, and controlling the SpeakJet's
pitch and phonemes via a one-wire serial interface (1/8" patch cord). I had
absolutely no control over any aspect of the recording. It was 100%
aleatoric. The *only* thing I did was fade it in and out at the beginning
and end of the recording.

I'm glad you enjoyed the sample. I've been having a lot of fun with the
SpeakJet.
