[sdiy] MIDI to Gate converter

A couple years ago, there was a schematic and code for a PIC based MIDI
to 16 Gate converter floating around. It was designed by Dr John Tuffen.
It had a hex rotary switch and two pushbuttons to program channel and
note range.

Has anyone built this?

Does anyone know the whereabouts of Dr Tuffen?
