Every company (without exception) that is a 'pure'
synth company, making cutting-edge synths, has gone broke.
You need look no further than probability theory to see why,
it is like trying to pick the winner of every race.
Nobody can do that.

The companies that lasted eg Roland & Yamaha, have such a
width and depth of product that they can afford not to have
a hot new synth for five years or longer.

Incidentally, anyone who doesn't factor in software costs &
overruns, DESERVES to go broke.

This is the joy of DIY.... you can put in the features YOU want,
make it the color YOU want, and if you are still debugging it
when you retire, that's cool ;D

I gotta say, though, that the most stress I ever have as a
(microsize) fx manufacturer, is when I'm paying someone to
write software.. because, I can't tell if it is going well or not
(despite milestones). It brings out paranoia in me.. because I know
some VERY BAD programmers, and if I had one of them, it would be the
business finished.

BTW my comments have nothing at all to say about the very excellent
guys (and gal) manufacturing analog gear today, I'm referrign to the
"next big thing in the stores" kind of company.
