I agree the EV-5 is a terrible feeling pedal and has a short throw. For
expression, the Yamaha FC-7 is more to my liking.
The FC-7 is 50 K. The EV-5 checks in at about 10K. The one I had in my
hand actually checked about 8500 ohms.
Also, Yamaha and Roland reverse the Tip and ring connection in terms of
which is the wiper.

The Roland EV-5 pedal is simply a pot that's wired directly to the three
terminals of the 1/4" TRS plug (there's second pot that's also in there to
set the "minimum value", but it can be eliminated for your purpose). I
don't have the schematic handy, but a 50K pot value seems to come to mind.
(the EV-5 still has a terrible feel, though).
