I faintly recall some article which told that the 4-op machines basically
used the same chips as the 6-op ones; the ones used within the 4-op were
failing the QA for 6-op (similar to 486DX vs. 486SX about 10 years later).
Is that true? And if, how did they use the 6-op as 4-op? Did they just
reduce the amount of multiplexing by e.g. a lower multiplex clock so that
4*16 run in the same amount of time as the original 6*16?
