Hi Other Tim,

I'm looking at doing the same thing with some 3394s I've bought recently.
One thing you might do is find some schematics for a Sequential Circuits Six
Track. This machine used the 3394, and could give you some application
hints. My guess would be that the envelopes and LFOs were done in software.
Other than that, the only thing I've done is carefully go over the
application notes. There is a lot of information there, and it can be
downloaded from

<http://www.synthtech.com/cem/c3394pdf.pdf>

Several other CEM and SSM datasheets can be found through the Synthtec site
at

I've ordered a batch of several CEMs lately from them. The prices and
delivery were good, so I'm pretty happy about the whole deal (thanks Paul!)

>From my read of the ap notes, here's a quick summary of the signals for the
3394

VCO Frequency, Pin 2:   -4 to +4V, 0.75V/octave

Waveform Select, Pin 6:   -0.35 to +3V, -0.35 = triangle, 1.20 = tri/saw ,
3.0 = saw

Pulse Width, Pin 7: 0 to 2.00, make slightly negative to shut off pulse
wave

External input / VCO balance, Pin 10: 0 to 4V

External input, Pin 9: 80mV p-p

VCF Frequency, Pin 16: -3 to +4v, 0.38V/octave

VCF Resonance, Pin 11: 0 to 2.5V

VCO to VCF mod amount, Pin 5: 0 to 4V

Final VCA Gain, Pin 18: 0 to 4V

Vcc = +5V

Vee = -6.5V

Interfacing to this chips looks fairly straightforward once you know these
signal levels. There are some slightly odd levels and ranges, but nothing
that couldn't be handled with standard op amps to do level shifting and/or
scaling.

Keep us posted if you come up with any neat applications!

I have a schematic for what I have been told was the older version of the
chip,....anyone happen to have 3394 project designs?

thanks

tim
