Oh GAWD! I had a friend who owned an AMC Hornet (what an unmitigated
piece of crap that was). It had vacuum operated wipers. We went
somewhere in the rain once and he actually had a string tied to the
driver's side wiper that ran back into the car through a crack in the
window. The wiper would go right and he used the string to pull it
back to the left. Very amusing for me as a passenger...
