Uh-oh. Now we done it!
I just remembered my introduction to programming; my first program after
"hello world" was 11 pages of spaghetti goto's that played an ascii version
of Space Invaders in Pet Basic. I was waaay ahead of the class by the second
week, and so teaching myself how to program bigger and better things; I
remember looking at gosubs and saying to myself "a gosub is like a goto,
only you HAVE to return...why would I ever want to be forced to return,
isn't that sort of limiting???", and using goto as my main method of flow
control for a long while after that. That 11 pages of goto's (there was a
goto about every 5-10 lines) was the gawdawfullest piece of code I have ever
seen, except for one thing; it kept my classmates entertained for the first
half of the year (it had a high score rating, and they were all trying to
reach "God" level). I made the game seem much faster than it was, by making
it so that your ship was always moving; you had to alternate tapping the
keys left/right very fast to "hover" in place.
That is how not to use goto's, hehehe.
