I do not really see why that's essentially different.
And software is very DIY. That's what's soft about it in the first place.

NEW?

There's a nice in-between stage between writing software and
patching analogue synths. It's called Max/MSP and it is
available for Mac and Win @ http://www.cycling74.com
It's a patch language in which you connect pieces of code
with wires. Looks nicely basic.

They also have a product called "Pluggo".
It basically allows you to make plugins form your max patches.
You can drop these into protools...
And it installs hundreds of plugins that I all threw away...

Well... the nice thing about digital is that you can do different
things. You can muck about with time more (see my toonhangers)
and... very nice... you can drive Max' sine oscillator by the phase.
I made an excellent overdrive with it. It makes rounder waves
the more you drive it, in stead of squarisch.
If only I could do that analoguely!
It makes a good distortion/limiter for doublebasses. The bass
simply stands out more, without sounding any harscher.
Here is my folder:

Tubestimulatie.pi is ready to be dropped into Protools 5 with pluggo.
Not tested in 6 yet. Drop me a note if you like it, as I am making
a new one with more control.

It's a different kick to use your own plugins while mixing.
