I've seen tube circuitry that would run from very common batteries. I have
to admit it's one more box to lug around, but he might like the sound well
enough to justify the extra baggage. If he feels a plugin is "good enough"
that's fine with me, but I'd like to encourage him to at least *try* a real
tube circuit.
