I had fix some old teletype terminals at my first job (they still used rs232
links with dumb terminals)
and one of them had a VT100 emulation, CRT and variable baud generator.
The ENTIRE thing, character gen, keyboard decode, logic, *everything* was
done with a board FULL of 74hc00s.
I mean we're talk > 400 of them...
Now Im sure this was done as a joke, or a design 'concept'. but I tell you
what, the only thing that EVER went wrong with them, was the HT PSU for the
CRT kept dieing...
