OK, lesson 1:

Problem description:
Hey! This machine doesn't make any sound and doesn't blink its blinkenligthen!

Checklist:
1) Check that the powercord is connected.
2) Check that the powerswitch is in "On" position.
3) Check that the powersocket got any juice, orange juice is OK but any juice
   will do.

What to do if you don't solve it:
Do something completely different, like wistle, walk the dog, if you don't have
a dog get one so you can walk it, wistle to the dog while walking it, wistle
while getting a dog or just in general watch the other way as the grey smoke
is rising from the (now) broken device. If you are in north america you might
enjoy sending smoke signals with the grey smoke and get some contact with the
natives, which is doing something completely different.

What if the box was not your own:
Run like hell at this point. Hope you are a good runner!

What if you don't learn anything new from lesson 1:
OK, we can't rule of that you are not a complete moron yeat, but we are getting
there. You might be an oxymoron from not learning anything either.

Cheers,
Magnus - with a good supply of grey smoke
