As a computer professional, hot plugging is something to be wary of anyway,
regardless of any manufacturer's claim.  I would not make a purchase based on
such claims.  IMHO, hot plug is really only worthwhile under rather extreme
conditions, a profit generating server for example, even then, the whole idea
is chilling.

For musicians doing things in their personal studio, I just don't see hotplug
as an issue to worry about.  If the thing died (for as often as that
happens...), it's not making music anyway, so turn the machine off, plug a
new one in and start your track over.  Also, I see much conversation here
over the prices of things.  Certainly, if we are worried about the price of
an adapter card, I don't see buying a spare, just to store on a shelf, as a
thing most of us would do.

If it were me, I would ignore the hotplug claim and purchase the card that
supplies the features that are most important to you, speed, driver
stability, etc.
