There is one thing I really miss by recording to harddrive...
 
Back in the days when I actually recorded some music, I used to lay
electronic drums down on one track of an 8track ( 1/2" tascam of some flavor
).  We'd lay the track down *HOT* and then I'd pull the drums I wanted off
the next track over... sounded beastly.

Beyond that, I think Neil Young summed it up best by one year complaining
about digital recording and how we were losing so much of our music, and
then a year later recording Ragged Glory all DDD...
