Ok, perhaps since I still drive a 32 year old car, use a Tektronix 500
series 'scope and ride a horse (don't have a buggy yet, darn! ya
know, people still purchase buggys and buggy whips, and I have a NEW
catalog of horse-drawn transportation related items, etc. here
somewhere), I may appear a little too biased in favor of older
technology... one must admit that those automobiles can be a danged
nuisance and a danger on the roads when they don't slow down when
passing horses (said seriously, for that is a danger; please slow down
when passing them, turn the radio down and don't beep your horn).

With innovative uses of old technology, and with a combination of
both, the results can be amazing. :-) Let's not abandon all older
technology too quickly, after all, it never hurts to have a good
supply of candles in hurricane lamps on hand for power failures, just
like it never hurts to have a thoughts for a few plans for new tube
circuits in one's head. :-) Besides, older technolgy has resulted in
more easily repairable and hackable (modifiable) equipment. Old
reliable technology to the rescue! Old technology is dead, long live
old technology!
