[sdiy] recreating front panel layouts

Like most things in life, it depends what you can spend.
The 'NASA' solution:
dismount everything, photograph what is left of the panel,
and photoshop the image. There are plenty of typeface sites.
Then clean off the remains of the lettering & have the new 
panel art screenprinted on.
Shopping around, it should be possible to do this for $200
or less (quotes will vary up to almost infinity, though).

What is it, and how big is it?

There are a few companies still making dry transfer lettering 
(AFAIK nothing like the range Letraset had in the old days)

this company has 'electronic controls' and 'pcb' ranges.
