Thanks for the hint - this looks like it could actually replace my R2R from
the
software side. So I can use this free software and it will work with all of
the usual
8in/8out soundcards? Sounds reasonable

But if I buy some software sampler (or maybe get one for free, too), how do
the two
programs share the access to the soundcard? Do I need both to have a common
interface / standard to communicate, or can they be completely independent?
