[sdiy] Rubber key contacts in Synth-DIY?

I've accumulated a few broken Yamaha 88-key keyboard assemblies. They use
those carbon and rubber key contacts. Does anyone know if these contacts
are "fragile" in the electrical sense? Are they practical to use for
Synth-DIY purposes? (I don't want to pass too much current through them, or
anything.)

I've also had the idea to carve up two of them, chain them end-to-end, and
create a MIDI master keyboard with 128 keys, to cover the full MIDI note
range. Has anyone done something like this already? :)

take care,
Glen
