I have very successfully run three different examples of the M2CV8 board
from +/- 15V over the years. Apart from increased dissipation in the +5 reg
(use bigger heatsink) or series dropper R (use bigger R!) the board works
fine.
That said, Paul Perry's advice is extremely sound, it's just that the PAIA
psu arrangements on this board are pretty simple and forgiving.
